Anti-Ragging Policy

Sheikh-ul-Alam College of Education has zero tolerance for ragging in any form.

Ragging in any form — verbal, physical, mental, or cyber — is strictly prohibited on the campus of Sheikh-ul-Alam College of Education, in and around college buildings, in hostels, on transport, and in any space associated with the institution.

The college complies fully with the Supreme Court of India's directions inVishwa Jagriti Mission v. Central Government (2001) and theUGC Regulations on Curbing the Menace of Ragging in Higher Educational Institutions, 2009 (as amended).

Every student, faculty member, and non-teaching staff member has a duty to report ragging immediately to the Anti-Ragging Committee or to the National Anti-Ragging Helpline (1800-180-5522).

Students found guilty of ragging shall be subject to penalties ranging from cancellation of admission, suspension, rustication, to criminal prosecution, as prescribed under the UGC Regulations and applicable laws of India.

The college also collects anti-ragging undertakings from every admitted student (and their parent or guardian) as required by UGC Regulations.

What Constitutes Ragging?

Under UGC Regulations, ragging includes any act, whether physical or otherwise, that causes or is likely to cause:

  • Bodily harm or danger to health, life, or limb
  • Humiliation, degradation, disgrace, or psycho-trauma
  • Obstruction from pursuing ordinary coursework or legitimate activities
  • Financial extortion or forceful expenditure
  • Any act with sexual connotation — abuse, gestures, or verbal attacks
  • Deriving pleasure or sadistic thrill from others' discomfort
  • Any act using social media, messaging platforms, or digital communications

Student Grievance Redressal

Every student has the right to have their grievance heard, acknowledged, and resolved fairly.

How to File a Grievance

  1. Informal Resolution

    Approach your faculty member or the department head with your concern. Most grievances can be resolved informally at this stage.

  2. Written Complaint to Principal

    If informal resolution is not possible, submit a written complaint to the Principal's office at the college or by email.

  3. Grievance Committee Review

    The Grievance Redressal Committee will acknowledge your complaint within a reasonable time and initiate an enquiry.

  4. Resolution & Communication

    A written response with the outcome of the enquiry will be communicated to you. The committee aims to resolve matters promptly and fairly.

  5. Escalation

    If you are not satisfied with the outcome, you may escalate to the University of Kashmir or the relevant statutory authority.

Anti-Ragging Undertaking

All admitted students and their parents or guardians are required to submit an anti-ragging undertaking.

As required by the UGC Regulations on Curbing the Menace of Ragging in Higher Educational Institutions, 2009, every student admitted to Sheikh-ul-Alam College of Education must submit a signed anti-ragging undertaking at the time of admission. A corresponding undertaking must be submitted by the student's parent or guardian.

These undertakings may be submitted via the UGC Anti-Ragging portal www.antiragging.in or directly at the college admissions office.
